Katarina Tchaykovsky, is a Master Gilder with sharp eye for detail and a keen eye for design. ORO Gilding launched in 2009 specializes in "water" and "oil" gilding technique of antique and modern decorative surfaces, including plaster mouldings, columns, sculptures, frames, furniture, artifacts, fireplaces, reverse glass, stone, wall treatments and exterior iron gates or railings.

Katarina is graduate from the Technical School of Restoration & Conservation of Architectural Buildings in Wroclaw, Poland, specializing in stone and decorative elements treatments. Further formal studies include Ontario College of Art and Design, majoring in Fine Arts, following a 5 year apprenticeship specializing in painting, gilding and conservation with Senior Conservator and Iconographer MAC Roumen Kirinkov of Zograph Studio in Toronto.

We are qualified conservators for fine art objects, antiques, sculptures, frames, furniture & paintings. Often there are different levels of restoration and conservation to be considered. We perform a careful examination of the condition of each objects surface and recommend the appropriate treatment options to you first as a proposal, including cost estimates. Treatments depends on the condition of the artifact, future use and budget.

Upon completion, a Report is provided which includes before, during, and after photographs of the object(s) along with a written report with the steps undertaken and the materials used. Reports include priority rankings for treatment, based on which piece is most valuable and in most need of repair. This provides you the knowledge to budget and plan for future conservation treatments.

Interior gilding in this foyer ORO adds understated glamour and warmth to this entrance with application of 12KT white gold. Plaster mouldings, walls, select metals, stones, and even glass, (known as Inverse Glass) are are ideal surfaces for custom or classic gilding finishes.

Exterior gilding is available for iron gates and railings.

Gold leaf is available in all karats 12k to 24k. Gold leaf is also available in a variety of alloys to make a range of colours. *Only 23 through 24 karat gold may be used for both interior and exterior surfaces. All others should be used for interior only and may require a protective coating to reduce oxidation.

Copper leaf creates many possibilities because of its ability to accept chemical processes. Copper leaf finishes can include the colour copper, but also a variety of patinas.

Aluminum leaf is an excellent substitute for silver when patinas are not used or the cost of silver maybe prohibitive. *Aluminum leaf does not tarnish, but it does oxidize. Clear coatings are recommended. Silver leaf is available in different colors and patterns. It also accepts chemical oxidation to produce patinas of old and new.

Imitation gold leaf, sometimes referred to as "Dutch metal" or composition leaf, is made of copper and zinc, with a similar appearance to gold leaf. Imitation gold is available in many colors and is excellent leaf for patinas. *Patinas are usually only suitable for furniture and small moldings.

ORO is qualified to handle antiques. This beautiful 18th century, French Rococo table was completely restored and re-gilded to its original state for a museum in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

This Icon is a replicate of 16th century, Saint John, The Apostle, done in Byzantine style. Egg tempera on wood and gilded in 24k Italian gold leaf.
